about me
Hi! My name is McKenzie, and I am so glad you are here!
I am based out of Phoenix, AZ, and I’m currently pursuing my Master’s in Sustainability Leadership at ASU. I made this switch after a short stint in interior design, after an equally short stint in merchandising. I was appalled by the waste in both those industries, and I wanted to transition into something that matched more of my values that I had acquired since graduating with my Bachelor’s in Interior Design.
One of these values became sustainability, and it came from wanting to treat this world that we have been gifted a whole heck of a lot better. I love God, and my relationship with Him is a huge part of my life. I want to treat His gift of creation with more reverence and care— the care that it deserves.
So I decided to go back to school. To learn something that was more aligned with my beliefs and values. Which brings you to this blog— a bit of a summary of what I’ve learned, am continuing to learn, and wanting to learn more of. Now, we’re all caught up!
On another note— when I am not studying, or working full-time, I am a part-time dance teacher for 8-13 year-olds (I love this job with every fiber of my being). I am also usually hanging with family or friends, at a coffee shop, thrifting, watching a rom-com, trying to keep my plants alive. or trying to be an avid reader. It hasn’t happened for me yet.
Teaching dance is just the perfect combination of all the things I love: leading little ones, creating, and dancing

about the conscious recap
I was overwhelmed with the extent of what I was learning in my Master’s and the effect that climate anxiety had on my life. Also, friends and family were starting to ask me questions about sustainability… and I didn’t have any simple answers to give them.
Something needed to change.
I wanted a resource that I could turn to, time and time again, to provide an easy-to-understand explanation of concepts and ideas of the ever-evolving industry of sustainability. And I wanted the explanations to be so simple, that anyone, even people new to sustainability (and not studying it), could understand.
So, along came the idea for this blog.
I hope you find refuge in this helpful resource, a breath of fresh air in the sea of relentless information on these subjects, and a friend in me.
We are learning together, and I am just so glad you are here! Welcome!
